| Introductory Recording | When you apply or renew your driver’s license you are asked if you want to be an organ donor and if you choose yes, you get a pink dot on your license. It’s hard to understand the true significance of that pink dot until someone you know receives a lifesaving organ transplant and that someone is me. In January 2011, I was hours away from death on life support in ICU. I had gotten sick with Hepatitis A from eating contaminated food and went into full liver failure. My life was saved with a liver transplant because my donor said yes to the pink dot.
I was one of the lucky ones, 33% of people waiting for an organ transplant die and currently over 100,000 people are waiting. If you are not registered as donor, please consider registering as one. If you are registered, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your organ donation could save the lives of 8 people, and your tissue donation can enhance the lives of another 50 people. Donation is supported by all major religions, does not affect funeral traditions, and will not affect medical care received during an emergency.
